Therapeutic Gardens Australia is pleased to announce our newest affiliate: Dinner on the Table.Dinner on the Table was started in 2014 by Rachel Golding. It is a social enterprise which offers a home delivery service of delicious, nutritious meals to busy Sydney families and uses part of the profits to provide meals for families living with disability. The vegetables for these meals are currently sourced from a local farm and the scraps are collected  by students from The Hills School, a school for students with diverse learning needs, to feed chickens and use in their herb and veggie gardens (for more info, click here). It's a sustainable model with inspiring results: 1011 meals gifted to families living with disability; 1769 dinner prep hours saved and 137.6kg veggie scraps composted as of November 2017 (for more up-to-date statistics, click here), but Rachel wants to do more. Rachel is now looking for a site where she can develop a community garden. The garden will provide an opportunity for individuals from a range of disability support organisations to gain experience and skills in growing food and preparing meals, and the produce from the garden will be used in the Dinner on the Table kitchen. This endeavour is a shining example of using gardening to enrich the lives of people living with disability and the wider community. When we found out about Rachel's plan we were more than happy to offer our support and assistance. Our services will include:

  • launching a far-reaching marketing and public relations campaign to promote the garden both prior to its opening and following its completion. This will be done through a combination of traditional media channels and social media platforms. All plans will be developed in consultation with Dinner on the Table to ensure that the message being delivered is entirely reflective of Dinner on the Table's goals.

  • assistance with securing funding. We will use our expertise to secure a range of funding, sponsorships and/or in-kind donations to assist the project.

  • designing an accessible garden. We will work alongside Dinner on the Table to design and create a garden to maximise use of the available space and suit the needs of the people who will be using and maintaining the garden.

We are stoked to be working with Rachel and her team on this project, and can't wait to share the next step in this exciting venture!
