Edible Gardens
Good gardens begin with great design.
A well-designed edible garden is a joy to be in, gifting you year round with a bounty of nature’s goodness. Getting the design right pays off in less work, more produce and greater ease of use. Our team of permaculture experts have designed hundreds of gardens and know exactly how important planning is to ensure a garden that lasts.
What is Permaculture?
Bill Mollison defined it perfectly. “Permaculture is a philosophy of working with, rather than against nature; of protracted and thoughtful observation rather than protracted and thoughtless labor; and of looking at plants and animals in all their functions, rather than treating any area as a single product system.”
To put it simply- we work with rather than against nature to create self-sustaining systems that have minimal waste. The purpose is to reduce labour, cost, energy and waste.
“Weather means more when you have a garden. There’s nothing like listening to a shower and thinking how it is soaking in around your green beans.”
— Marcelene Cox
Edible Garden Planning.
The first and most important step is to create an initial ‘wishlist’. This should include all the elements, uses and purpose of the intended garden. We now have a starting point and can move on to the site assessment. When we design gardens for schools and organisations there are many more aspects to consider, and the true challenge is crafting a plan that will meet and exceed the needs of an entire community!
For a home garden our clients wishlist may look something like this.
You can download our Edible Garden PDF here to get started. After we receive your completed enquiry form, we arrange a free phone consultation to chat about your inspiration, needs, budget and plans. This is where we really get to know you and where the fun begins! Seeing your ideas come alive is such an exciting moment for me, especially knowing the joy an edible garden will provide for many years to come.
The next step is finalising your budget, providing a quote and the initial design. Here we start transforming your ideas into reality, and we make sure that you are happy with every detail before work begins.
Edible Garden Design
When you hear ‘edible garden’ what do you imagine? Orderly rows of leafy greens in raised timber bed, framed by laden fruit trees? Maybe you dream of an overflowing abundance of berry bushes and wild herbs with chickens wandering through winding paths pecking at stray bugs? That’s the beauty of an edible garden, it can be all those things!
Our mission at Therapeutic Gardens is connecting people and communities through innovative garden design.
With decades of experience and a team of experts, we make spaces come alive in a meaningful way.
